Can he stop the one who got away—

from getting away again?

Everyone in her Alaskan town hopes Iris James is back for good. Including Dr. Flynn Ramsey, who stole her heart when they were awkward teenagers. She realizes he’s planning an encore, but a prestigious job in Washington, DC, is calling to her. Only, ever since their kiss at her brother’s wedding, Iris isn’t sure about anything. Except her reignited feelings for Flynn…

Excerpt

With Flynn’s hand branding Iris’s bare back, he led her to the dance floor. Gentle notes of a popular love song filled the air, so Flynn gathered her in his embrace and made dancing seem as easy as everything else he did. The satisfied smile playing on his lips caused Iris’s heart to execute a slow cartwheel inside her chest. She should be used to this, to him, by now.

Lowering her voice to a whisper, she said, “Thank you for that. I owe you one. It was probably a little over-the-top, but I appreciate your dramatic flair. I’m sure they’re still talking about it.”

He dipped his head, and whispered near her ear, “I could not possibly care any less than I do about Faith or Ashley. And I only care about Todd in that I don’t want you singing any duets with him.”

“I hadn’t planned to but…” Her throat went dry because his hand had returned to her back, where his thumb caressed the skin along the edge of her dress. “What are you doing?”

“Dancing. Is there something going on between you and Cricket?”

“What?” she answered, alarmed by the subject change. Did he know about the flying lessons? She wasn’t ready for anyone to know about that yet. “Like what? What do you mean by ‘something’?”

Eyes narrowed and assessing, he clarified, “Are you two romantically involved?”

“Oh.” She laughed, and then paused to process the question. She didn’t want to tell him the truth, but she also didn’t want him thinking that. “That’s not what’s going on,” she said, and then realized that she’d inferred that something was.

“What is going on, then?”

“Nothing. I mean, he is helping me with something. But we’re just friends. He’s practically like a brother to me, you know that.”

“I do, I was just confirming it before I did something.”

“What?”

Tightening his hold, he twirled her around. She said, “Oh, I get it. They’re still watching, right?”

Flynn chuckled softly, shifting his focus to meet her gaze again. His brown eyes seemed to burn into hers. “No, I don’t think you do get it,” he murmured. “But then again, I didn’t really get it, either.”

“Get what? Flynn, what are you…?” Her question trailed off because he was staring at her mouth. The heat from her cheeks was apparently burning through to her brain because she could not think straight. Much less talk.

“Maybe this will help.”

Then his mouth brushed against hers in the sweetest, most perfect caress. Flynn was kissing her? Yes, he sure was, and his lips were velvety soft and completely perfect, and she couldn’t—she wouldn’t—think past that. Instead, she kissed him back, pressing her mouth more firmly to his. One hand came up to grip his shoulder. Before she could do more than that, his soft lips were gone.

“Iris,” he whispered, “I’m…” He closed his eyes and rested his forehead against hers for a second before slipping a hand around the back of her neck. He pressed a gentle kiss against her forehead and tucked her in close again. “Give me a second.”

Iris focused on trying to move air in and out of her lungs, but with her cheek pressed against his chest, every breath was Flynn-scented with hints of spicy soap and cedar boughs. Flynn had just kissed her. What did that mean? What did she do now? Panic welled inside of her because it couldn’t mean anything.

A chuckle vibrated through him. “That should give everyone something to talk about, huh?”

Of course, she realized, he’d kissed her for her, to help her. Thank goodness, he’d broken it off before she’d said, or done, something truly embarrassing. Her cheeks ignited with heat as she imagined herself clinging to him like a spider monkey on the dance floor.

About the Author

USA Today bestselling author Carol Ross grew up in small town America right between the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains, in a place where you can go deep sea fishing in the morning and then hit the ski slopes the same afternoon. The daughter of what is now known as free range parents, she developed a love of the outdoors at a very early age. As a writer, Carol loves to breathe the life she has lived into the characters she creates, grateful for the “research material” that every questionable decision, adrenaline-charged misstep, and near-death experience has provided.

Kathryn Cooper Writes Review

This was a fun read full of families, best friends, and teen romance. Everyone in the group of friends had some possible romance happening, but this story just focuses on Paige and Bryce.

The story begins on the first day of school. Paige had been depressed all summer because her 2 year long boyfriend had broken up with her. She tried to hold it together, but her emotions were rough when she saw her ex at lunch with another girl.

Bryce had been her friend for years and had secretly liked her. He happily stepped in to be her fake boyfriend. It’s fun to hear from both of these characters during their fake/new relationship.

Overall this was a fun read, but there was some annoying teenage boy jokes that I would’ve liked out of the book.

If you like clean teen romance with some possible magic then I recommend your read Fate & Fortune by Robin Daniels.

MY REVIEW: 5 STARS!

A contemporary clean romance with little adorable twins and a firefighter daddy?! Win, Win in my book. 😉

I love how Love Inspired books are short but deep reads. This story kept up the pace the way I like it, not too slow, not too fast. Shay and Natalie are the main characters that switch telling the story. I enjoy learning more personal things about the characters before they share it out loud with others. I understood more about the characters personality as their past and present experiences were told.

Natalie is fun, creative, and has been through the loss of a loved one. She doesn’t know if she can handle the risk of having feelings for someone again that she might lose. Shay has gone through a diverse and is responsible for raising 2 year old twin boys. This story is true in telling how young boys act. Believe me. I know. Their mixture of behaviors remind me of my boys at that age.

Heidi McCahan shows us the ups and downs of finding romance in real life situations, not fairy tales. I love the characters and the precious Christian romance! ❤

Groom by Agreement

A real home–it’s what Vienna Howe dearly wants for her young daughter. Yet the ramshackle property she just inherited hardly qualifies. She can’t afford the repairs–until foreman West McCall suggests they start a dude ranch together. For propriety’s sake, they’ll need a marriage in name only…a practical solution for two wary hearts.

Years ago, West convinced Vienna to marry a man of means, never realizing how cruel her husband could be. Guilt-ridden, he intends to secure the lovely widow’s future. But despite his reluctance to get close to anyone, this union might do more than fix Vienna’s ranch. It could open the door to a warm, loving future…

My Review: 5 STARS!
I love this book! I felt the emotions of the characters as I went through the story with them. There were many different parts to the characters’ story that blended so well together. I happily woke up early in the morning just to read this book!

Vienna and West are the main characters. The story is told by switching to the two characters throughout. I enjoy hearing the personal perspective from both Vienna and West.

Vienna had a past marriage that ended, but she had been blessed with a precious daughter. Hattie brings love into the story that only a young child can bring. West shows the perspective of a man that has gone through a difficult choice. He shows tremendous growth. Really he and Vienna both demonstrate growth and learning that we all experience through life’s ups and downs.

If you enjoy reading romance that is clean and sweet then A Cowboy of Convenience is the book for you! It is full of trials, sadness, joys, and love. It is another great Christian Love Inspired Historical read.

30 Books Review Catch Up!

I’ve been terrible about posting reviews this year! I last posted in May, but that book had been read months before that. I don’t remember the details of the 30 books I’ve read or listened to since December of 2016, but I do know what I rated it on Goodreads.

All books were clean romance. Some had a few curse words, but most had none.

I use my library audio books on my phone which allows me to “read” a ton of books while I’m driving, grocery shopping, or cleaning my house. It is so great! I also found my love for Novellas. Short, sweet, and to the point.

Happy Reading Y’all!!

I love all of Kasie West’s books! When you find an author that writes in the style that you love, you need to read all of their books! I get excited just hearing when she has another book coming out.

The way that Lily shares messages with someone she didn’t know is a little out of the ordinary these days, but that just made it more fun to read. I like how Lily finds out the the new friend is a guy. The ideas of this happening in real life was cute! Stories like this keep me up late at night, completely addicted.

Daughter of Ishmael by Diane Stringam Tolle. 2017. Cedar Fort.

Goodreads. Amazon.

32560833

Growing up around prophets and prophecies, Hannah and her sisters are excited to be betrothed to sons of Lehi and to journey to the promised land. But now with her people dividing, Hannah must choose between her faith and her family. Should she follow Nephi again, or stay with her husband, Lemuel, and her son in sin and misery? This compelling novel tells the familiar scripture story from an illuminating new perspective.

stars4Diane Stringam Tolley is an amazing talented author! Her words are written so beautifully.

The Book of Mormon contains true historic writings from Nephi. This story called Daughter of Ishmael is a fiction novel that gives ideas of how life might have been for a woman named Hannah that played a daughter of Ishmael and Nephi’s sister-in-law. I read Daughter of Ishmael as a story, not scripture, and found it intriguing. The novel goes from Hannah being very young to much older. She goes through many difficulties that are heart breaking. She also finds peace and joy through following the prophet.

I’ve never read a scripture historical fiction. It’s not my style, but it was made well. If you love adult scripture historical fiction then you’ll love this beautifully written novel with love, faith, and sadness.

This was supposed to be the night she proved he existed. So when she sees a cute guy waiting to pick up his sister, she enlists his help. The task is simple: be her fill-in boyfriend—two hours, zero commitment, a few white lies. After that, she can win back the real Bradley.

The problem is that days after prom, it’s not the real Bradley she’s thinking about, but the stand-in. The one whose name she doesn’t even know. But tracking him down doesn’t mean they’re done faking a relationship. Gia owes him a favor and his sister intends to see that he collects: his ex-girlfriend’s graduation party—three hours, zero commitment, a few white lies.

Just when Gia begins to wonder if she could turn her fake boyfriend into a real one, Bradley comes waltzing back into her life, exposing her lie, and threatening to destroy her friendships and her new-found relationship.

If the book is written by Kasie West I know I’m going to LOVE it! I love a cute high school romance that makes me laugh or just have a cheesy grin on my face while reading. Within the first few pages you see a teenage girl getting dumped outside of her high school prom. She then goes and gets a fake replacement date. Gia gets a guy to play her “boyfriend” Bradley. She doesn’t even know his name. Gia was being ridiculous to ask him to fake being her boyfriend! The story just gets better and better.

Everything that happens is entertaining to read! The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West is a funny and charming YA contemporary fiction.

It was Sloane who yanked Emily out of her shell and made life 100% interesting. But right before what should have been the most epic summer, Sloane just…disappears. All she leaves behind is a to-do list.

On it, thirteen Sloane-inspired tasks that Emily would normally never try. But what if they could bring her best friend back?

Apple picking at night? Okay, easy enough.

Dance until dawn? Sure. Why not?

Kiss a stranger? Um…

Emily now has this unexpected summer, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected), to check things off Sloane’s list. Who knows what she’ll find?

Go skinny-dipping? Wait…what?

I loved reading Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson! This is the first book I’ve read by her. It was exactly what I wanted to read in May 2016. I laughed at some hilarious moments when Emily was fulfilling some of the to-do list left by her friend Sloane. Watching a very hiding teen girl come out and do some unbelievable things was so fun to read. I laughed and cried throughout this great read.
