Aspen Everlasting

Aspen Foster thinks she’s just a normal sixteen-year-old, but when her car gets caught in a flash flood, Aspen and her sister discover the superhuman strength they never knew they had.

Soon Aspen learns she’s not normal at all. She’s an Evermortal, with powers of strength beyond her wildest dreams. But the more Aspen finds out about her family’s past, the more dangerous her future becomes.

This riveting fantasy is full of action, adventure, and romance. Suspenseful and exhilarating!

I like a book that draws me in from the first chapter. … I was left wanting more. I would recommend this book to young adults and adults who enjoy fiction and fantasy and leaving reality for a moment to be a part of something more.
-Kate Walker

I’ve never read anything like it before and it drew me in right away! Cooper’s world building was spot on. Her visuals made it easy to see exactly what she was trying to convey and it just felt like I was in this world with Aspen. I loved it.

Water splashed on all sides then took control of the tires. The car swerved right toward the river.
“No. NO. NO!” I turned the wheel toward the road. It didn’t work. Fast running water pulled the car into the flooded river.

Excerpts

“Want me to come with you?”
I looked up at his grin. Of course I did. I’d been crushing on him since we were ten. Six years was a long time to have a crush. But…
“You’d better not. I’m picking up three sophomore cheerleaders. There might be too much girl drama for you to handle.”
He threw his head back and laughed, then stepped closer. “I think you’re right. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Aspen talking with Nate

A large puddle spread out in front of us on the road. It looked like we could make it through, so I pushed harder on the gas pedal. Water splashed on all sides but then took control of the tires. The car swerved right toward the river.
“No. NO. NO!” I turned the wheel toward the road. It didn’t work. Fast running water pulled the car into the flooded river. The girls screamed as we rode the car like a water ride at an amusement park. My brain froze. I couldn’t think of what to do. The river took control of the car, spinning us around.

Do you ever re-read a favorite book when you need to escape from a hard day? Yesterday I escaped to Aspen Everlasting, my own book, for the first time in almost a year!
From 2014-15 I was going through #braintumorsurgery, radiation, and chemo. At the same time I sent my book out to find a publisher and then edited my book with my publishing company. Aspen Everlasting was published a few weeks before my last chemo!
Most authors don’t read their books after it has been published because they’re working on their next book or can remember their book better than me post brain tumor. I wish I was working on my next book more, but I haven’t had the energy in me for the past 2 years.
So yesterday I wanted to read and saw Aspen Everlasting on my kindle. I started to read it, and the smiles came quickly. 😆

When you have a hard day find what will bring a smile to your face.

June 16: Ditch That Jacket #sammyreadsjune16
Four: a Divergent Collection by Veronica Roth is a great book to see with its jacket off. I loved reading Four’s small stories. Who is your favorite Divergent character? Mine is Four. I want to show bravery through fears. Four and I are both scared of heights and claustrophobic. I don’t like 🎡 Ferris Wheels! 🎡 They are so SLOW which makes me feel claustrophobic AND scared of heights! 😂

June 18: Book and Nature #sammyreadsjune16
I love books, photos, and Texas country life. I’ve started reading and loving The Unlikely Gift of Treasure Blume by Lisa Rumsey Harris. I’ve met Lisa! She’s sweet and fun! 🌸

My Fairly Dangerous Godmother by Janette Rallison: 5 of 5 STARS YA Review

My Fairly Dangerous Godmother (My Fair Godmother #3) by Janette Rallison. 2015. Rally Point Press. Goodreads.

23522181

Some people bomb auditions. Sadie Ramirez throws up during her tryouts on TV show America’s Top Talent. Her performance is so bad, it earns her a fairy godmother through the Magical Alliance’s Pitiful Damsel Outreach Program. Enter Chrysanthemum Everstar: a gum-chewing, cell phone-carrying, high heel wearing fairy godmother in training. She misinterprets Sadie’s wishes and sends her back in time to be a part of The Little Mermaid story and then makes her one of the twelve dancing princesses. Wishes are permanent, and if Sadie wants to get back to her home, she’ll have to strike a magical bargain–one that involves stealing a goblet from a powerful fairy queen.

stars5

I read most of this book in February and March and loved it! This story takes you on a wild adventure. Sadie gets sent on a fairy tale fiction world adventure. At first it was The Little Mermaid then off to The 12 Dancing Princesses. The girl went through crazy things, and there was a ‘bad boy’ involved. He seemed to be the guy she was fighting, but he was kind, thoughtful, strong, and good looking. Oh there are some scenes I would love to reread!

Even if you haven’t read the first 2 books in the series you can read this one. Have fun going on Sadie’s adventure in My Fairly Dangerous Godmother by Janette Rallison.

The Mistletoe Promise by Richard Paul Evans: 5 of 5 STARS Adult Review

The Mistletoe Promise by Richard Paul Evans. 2014. Simon & Schuster. Goodreads.

23058989

Elise Dutton dreads the arrival of another holiday season. Three years earlier, her husband cheated on her with her best friend, resulting in a bitter divorce that left her alone, broken, and distrustful.

Then, one November day, a stranger approaches Elise in the mall food court. Though she recognizes the man from her building, Elise has never formally met him. Tired of spending the holidays alone, the man offers her a proposition. For the next eight weeks—until the evening of December 24—he suggests that they pretend to be a couple. He draws up a contract with four rules:

1. No deep, probing personal questions
2. No drama
3. No telling anyone the truth about the relationship
4. The contract is void on Christmas Day

The lonely Elise surprises herself by agreeing to the idea. As the charade progresses, the safety of her fake relationship begins to mend her badly broken heart. But just as she begins to find joy again, her long-held secret threatens to unravel the emerging relationship. But she might not be the only one with secrets.

I read this back in December, and of course I post my review in June!! I’m catching up on a few reviews.

I love clean romance! This was so much fun to read. It made my heart beat fast and lips grin. My book club picked it for December which was the perfect time to read it. Of course if you’re having a hot summer like I am maybe you’d like to read a story with snow involved right now. 😉 This adult fiction was full of ups and downs. It was exactly what I was in the mood to read!

If you love clean romance like I do then you must read The Mistletoe Promise by Richard Paul Evans now or wait until the winter season!

More Book Fun In May

Batman or Bookman? My 3 year old is both! I promise I didn’t plan this picture! I’m the proud momma of 4 book lovers.

May 20th: It’s Friday! What are you reading? I’m still reading Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson and loving it! I had author visits at a high school and 1st grade classes this week. It was fun! Now back to reading.

May 30th: I just finished reading Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson and LOVED it!!! Post brain tumor procedures and having 4 little boys running around my house it’s been difficult to read much. I finished this book in less than 4 weeks! That’s a huge victory for me. I feel my-reading-self coming back! Thanks @morgamat for helping!

#seaofbooks I was tagged by @booksatruestory. Thanks! This was fun!

I picked these books for their blue sea color. 2 of the 4 take place in water! I have read Midnight Pearls by Debbie Viguie and Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. I’ve seen the movie for The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. I’m looking forward to reading Atlantia by Ally Condie. All great!

Have you read any of these or watched the movies?

Bright gold is definitely in the bright colored book category. Avalon High by Meg Cabot is amazing! It has action and teen romance! I wish it had a following book to continue the story.

Have any of you read this? What did you think?

I read this one before I had started my book blog. I did review it on goodreads. I rated it 4 out of 5 stars because of some language.

Day 20: Book Over 500 Pages

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Book Author: C.S. Lewis. Movie: Walt Disney and Walden Media.

Day 27: Book and Hobby #maybooksberead16

The book I chose is mine, Aspen Everlasting! It’s currently ebook only. Holding the bookmarks are my 4 young boys between 3 and 9 years old. I don’t have a “hobby!” My boys are the loves of my life, and writing/reading is my passion. I’m surprised they sat still long enough for the picture. Sweet moment. I would’ve taken the picture outside, but they would have run wild.

Day 28: Book Set In Summer #maybooksberead16

Slayers by C.J. Hills (aka Janette Rallison) is set in the summertime! Janette’s books are always entertaining! If you love YA urban fantasy with some good laughs and crushes that make you smile, read Slayers.

Day 31: May Wrap-Up #maybooksberead16

I’m proud of myself for reading an entire book in 1 month! Hurray for May! My goal is 2 books in June. My 4 boys are getting older which means I’ll have more help keeping the house clean. That might be wishful summer thinking. 🌞

What did you read this month? Plans to read next month?
