Book Review: Emmalee by Jenni James

THIS IS BOOK #4 IN THE SERIES! (#4 to be published but not actually 4th in series)
The author’s note found at the beginning of Emmalee explains that the books were published slightly out of order. It’s not a huge deal since each book has different main characters. The chronological order is Pride & Popularity, Persuaded, Emmalee, Mansfield Ranch (not yet published), Northanger Alibi, and Sense & Sensational (not yet published).

5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

Sometimes love is blind.

Emmalee Bradford thinks she’s an expert at matchmaking, and she won’t rest until all her friends are as happy as she is. Especially Hannah, the girl she’s decided to make popular. Everyone loves Emmalee’s advice–everyone, that is, except her annoying neighbor Chase Anderson, who has taken it upon himself to “fix” her.

This modern version of Jane Austen’s Emma is the hilarious journey of a girl who believes she knows all about love. But when it comes to recognizing the perfect guy for her, Emmalee is absolutely clueless.

My Thoughts:
I have to admit that Emma is not one of my favorite characters in the Jane Austen version, but I loved Emmalee in this book! She was so great. Funny when she didn’t even mean to be. Emma had a lot to learn and came across a bit shallow at times, but she really was thoughtful and a loving friend.

And how could you not fall in love with Knightly in the Jane Austen version? Well Chase was just as wonderful in this book, even better. Chase was so charming, cute, thoughtful, and romantic! He was Emma’s knight in shining armor . . . literally. 😉

It was so easy to enjoy reading Emmalee with great characters like Emmalee and Chase. Their chemistry was won-der-full! I loved it!

4 Stars: I Really Liked It

Will he take her back, or fling her aside like she deserves?

Three years ago Amanda made the biggest mistake of her life when she let her friends persuade her to reject the guy she loved. They were convinced he was a loser and wasn’t good enough for her.

Now Gregory’s back in Farmington . . . taller, stronger, hotter than ever, and worth millions. Those gorgeous girls who snubbed him before are now falling at his feet and he’s enjoying every moment of it.

Can he see past the pain Amanda caused him and give her a second chance? Or will she forever regret losing the only guy who truly loved her?

My Thoughts:
Jane Austen’s Persuasion was my favorite of her books so it was really fun to read this modern retelling. Like I always say, I LOVE retellings.

Amanda, the main character, was very true to the personality of Jane Austen’s character. She was belittled and unappreciated by her family and friends which made her reserved and unsure of herself. It seemed more sad in a modern setting for some reason. I really felt for Amanda, but sometimes I just wanted to yell, “stand up for yourself girl!”

The romantic story line was so intriguing and frustrating. Gregory moved back 3 years after Amanda turned him down because her friends thought he was a ‘nerd’ or something. Now he was a hottie and her friends didn’t even recognize him as the same guy. There was lots of denial and hidden feelings happening throughout the story, but it was all so entertaining. I really enjoyed it!

The Jane Austen Diaries are fun and romantic reads! I can’t wait for them all to come out, and then I’ll read them all over again.

5 Stars: I LOVED IT!!!

When Petunia, the youngest of King Gregor’s twelve dancing daughters, is invited to visit an elderly friend in the neighboring country of Westfalin, she welcomes the change of scenery. But in order to reach Westfalin, Petunia must pass through a forest where strange two-legged wolves are rumored to exist. Wolves intent on redistributing the wealth of the noble citizens who have entered their territory. But the bandit-wolves prove more rakishly handsome than truly dangerous, and it’s not until Petunia reaches her destination that she realizes the kindly grandmother she has been summoned to visit is really an enemy bent on restoring an age-old curse. The stories of Red Riding Hood and Robin Hood get a twist as Petunia and her many sisters take on bandits, grannies, and the new King Under Stone to end their family curse once and for all.

My Thoughts:
This story took place 9 years after the end of book 1, Princess of the Midnight Ball. The youngest of the 12 sisters, Petunia, had been 7 years old. Now she’s 16 and venturing out in the world. Petunia was fun to get to know. She wasn’t always the loudest in a group like Poppy (love her), but she definitely had spunk. The best part of the book was when Petunia met Oliver a “wolf,” so funny.

I loved hearing Oliver’s POV. He was sweet, caring, a good leader, and loyal. He really was a favorite of mine. The bad guys are back with a vengeance, but the girls are not going to be taken back to the King Under Stone world without a fight.

Exciting, funny, and romantic! Princess of the Silver Woods was the perfect end to a great series.

THIS IS BOOK 3 OF THE SERIES!
Book 1- Heist Society- MY REVIEW
Book 2- Uncommon Criminals- MY REVIEW

Title: Perfect Scoundrels
Author: Ally Carter
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Release Date: February 2013
Pages: 328
Series: Heist Society #3
4 Stars: I Really Liked It

Katarina Bishop and W.W. Hale the fifth were born to lead completely different lives: Kat comes from a long, proud line of loveable criminal masterminds, while Hale is the scion of one of the most seemingly perfect dynasties in the world. If their families have one thing in common, it’s that they both know how to stay under the radar while getting-or stealing-whatever they want. No matter the risk, the Bishops can always be counted on, but in Hale’s family, all bets are off when money is on the line. When Hale unexpectedly inherits his grandmother’s billion dollar corporation, he quickly learns that there’s no place for Kat and their old heists in his new role. But Kat won’t let him go that easily, especially after she gets tipped off that his grandmother’s will might have been altered in an elaborate con to steal the company’s fortune. So instead of being the heir-this time, Hale might be the mark. Forced to keep a level head as she and her crew fight for one of their own, Kat comes up with an ambitious and far-reaching plan that only the Bishop family would dare attempt. To pull it off, Kat is prepared to do the impossible, but first, she has to decide if she’s willing to save her boyfriend’s company if it means losing the boy.

My Thoughts:
The best part about this book was all the information we learned about Hale. He had been Kat’s mysterious and cute friend in the past books, but this time I got to delve into his family and world. It was great to get to know his crazy family like we’ve gotten to know Kat’s.

I didn’t have to read this story every second of the day. I wasn’t hooked or attached to Kat or the side characters, except for Hale. At the start of the series Kat changed from being a thief to a Robin Hood, still a thief just for a better reason. Most of the side characters are thieves though, and I just don’t relate or feel attached to them. I still gave this book 4 stars because it was well written and an entertaining story.

There was a lot of excitement and a little more romance this time which I loved. If you loved Heist Society and Uncommon Criminals then you’ll love this final installment in the series. At least I think it’s the final book. It came to a nice and complete ending anyway. Enjoy!

add to your GoodReads

There wasn’t a synopsis on GoodReads for this book yet, but when I noticed on the author’s website that it would come out in October I got so excited! I LOVED Slayers! See My Review. This is a must read series. I actually love all of Janette Rallison/ CJ Hill’s books. Since the synopsis isn’t even up yet this might not be the final cover or actual release date.

Here’s book 1 info! This is the upcoming paperback cover. Amazing!

Dragons exist. They’re ferocious. And they’re smart: before they were killed off by slayer-knights, they rendered a select group of eggs dormant so their offspring would survive. Only a handful of people know about this, let alone believe it—these “Slayers” are descended from the original knights and are now a diverse group of teens that includes Tori, a smart but spoiled senator’s daughter who didn’t sign up to save the world.

The dragon eggs have fallen into the wrong hands. The Slayers must work together to stop the eggs from hatching. They will fight; they will fall in love. But will they survive?

Transcend Time Blitz Blog Tour!

Xpresso Book Tours is hosting the Book Blitz for the Transcend Time Saga. I LOVE THIS SERIES!

My Reviews:

Lizzie Davenport has been reincarnated from Regency Era, England … but she doesn’t know it yet.

Then Drew Carmichael transfers into Lizzie’s high school at the beginning of the year, and she feels a connection to him, almost like she knows him. She can’t stop thinking about him, but whenever she tries talking with him about the mysteries behind her feelings, he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with her. Reaching him is even more difficult because she has a boyfriend, Jeremy, who has started to become full of himself after being elected co-captain of the varsity soccer team, and her flirtatious best friend Chelsea starts dating Drew soon after his arrival. So why can’t she get him out of her mind?

Even though Lizzie knows she should let go of her fascination with Drew, fighting fate isn’t going to be easy.

How far would you go to get revenge?

When Chelsea Givens discovered that her ex-boyfriend Drew dumped her to be with her former
best friend Lizzie, she’d never felt so betrayed in her life. Then her new friend Shannon tells her
she can help set things right. Chelsea’s willing to listen, but what Shannon wants her to believe –
– that she shared a past life with Drew — is impossible. And what she wants her to do to get him
back … well, it’s downright crazy.

Could Shannon be telling the truth? And if she is, what lengths will Chelsea go if it means
making Lizzie pay?

Find out in Vengeance, the second part of the Transcend Time Saga.

*Vengeance is the short story that bridges the events in Remembrance and the final novel in the
Saga.

IT’S A RACE AGAINST TIME.

In Remembrance, Lizzie and Drew changed the course of fate so they could be together.

In Vengeance, Chelsea set fate back on its original, deadly path.

Now, strange things keep happening to Lizzie. Things that are omens of darkness to come. A
curse has doomed her to die an early death, just as she did in her past life. To make matters
worse, even if she can figure out who cast the curse, it’s irreversible. There’s only one option left
for her to save herself. It’s crazier than anything she’s heard yet, and to do it, she’ll need Drew
and Chelsea’s help.

Because to make things right, they must go back to when it all began … and Lizzie discovers that
the final events in her past life were more sinister than she ever imagined.
REMEMBRANCE SNEAK PEAK

Preface:

It was at the Halloween dance that I got the first glimpse of my past life.
The gym was packed, and due to the masks and the dim lights, it was impossible to
tell who anyone was. I looked through the crowd, trying to see who Chelsea was dancing
with, but even her red dress blended into the darkness.
Then I felt a movement from behind.
“Your boyfriend won’t mind if you dance with someone else?” a familiar voice
whispered in my ear, barely audible over the loud, trancelike music. I turned around,
disappointed to find that the black bandanna wrapped around his hair and the matching
cloth mask covering the top half of his face made it impossible to see his features in the
low lighting. But I knew it was Drew.
He pulled me closer before I could respond to the question. His arms wrapped
around my waist, and I rested my head on his shoulder, closing my eyes and inhaling the
sweet scent of pine coming off his skin. Jeremy would mind, but pulling away from Drew
would be like trying to yank two magnets apart. It was dark, and we were in the back of
the room, far enough from the main crowd in the center for anyone to notice. One dance
couldn’t hurt.
He must have figured that I wasn’t going to try pulling away again, because he
raised his hand to my shoulder and trailed his thumb down to my elbow, reaching my
wrist and intertwining his fingers with mine. The palms of our hands connected, and I
decided to enjoy the time we could be together, knowing that everything would return to
the way it had been come Monday morning. The world spun to the beat of the music, and
I let myself sink into it, clearing my mind of everything around me.
That was when the first flash came.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this great book blitz! Have you read these books? If not add them to your to-read list!

Book Review: Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

THIS IS BOOK 2 IN A SERIES
Book 1- Cinder ( my review )

Title: Scarlet
Author: Marissa Meyer
Publisher: Feiwel and Friends
Release Date: February 2013
Pages: 452
Series: Lunar Chronicles #2
5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

Cinder returns in the second thrilling installment of the New York Times-bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother and the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she has no choice but to trust him, though he clearly has a few dark secrets of his own.

As Scarlet and Wolf work to unravel one mystery, they find another when they cross paths with Cinder. Together, they must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen who will do anything to make Prince Kai her husband, her king, her prisoner.

My Thoughts:
I LOVE THIS SERIES!!! If you haven’t read Cinder you need to because this is an epic series.

Now that we’re in to book 2 there was a lot more action. It was nonstop! Scarlet (red riding hood) was looking for her grandmother who’d gone missing. The authorities had given up the search claiming a suicide/runaway, but Scarlet couldn’t believe that. She found a guy named Wolf that could possibly help her. They went on a wild adventure trying to keep from getting caught or killed as they searched for answers to the disappearance. Scarlet was feisty with a temper and stood up for others, a great addition to the cast.

Don’t worry, there was plenty of Cinder and Kai in the story too. The Point of View switched between Scarlet, Cinder, Kai, and sometimes Wolf and Thorne. Thorne was pretty hilarious by the way. I won’t tell you about him so you can find out for yourself. I didn’t get bored when the POV switched because I loved all the characters and want to know what was going on with each of them.

Scarlet was an intense read full of run-for-your-life adventure and romance. I can’t wait to read book 3!
