Title: Take My Heart
Author: Marie Higgins
Publisher: Canyonland Press
Release Date: September 2011
Pages: 259
Series: Patriot Saga #1
5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

Switching roles and the pursuit of freedom come together in the hunt to discover who can be trusted and who is really the traitor during the Colonial times.

Mercedes Maxwell’s sister’s last wish was for Mercedes to find evidence against Kat’s husband, William Braxton, and have him hung as a traitor to the crown. Mercedes isn’t naïve when it comes to capturing traitors, because her own deceased husband had once been an agent for the King when they lived in England.

When she meets William Braxton for the first time, all is not as it seems. Portraying her twin, Mercedes knows this is the only way to get close enough to William to discover his secrets. What she finds along the way are little surprises she hadn’t counted on, especially when she begins to give her heart to a man who may be a spy against the crown.

My Thoughts:
Oooo this book was GOOOD!! I loved it. At the request of her dying twin, Mercy took her place to find the twin’s husband a traitor to the crown. From what her twin said Mercy expected Mr. Braxton to be a monster. What she found confused her to say the least.

Wow! The romance was wonderful! They both were hiding secrets which frustrated me. I kept yelling “just tell the truth to each other!!” Anyway, this book was great, filled with betrayal, love, and adventure.

The story was told from both Mercy and William’s perspectives. The writing was beautiful with great characters you could cheer for.

New Adult Spotlight: A Lady By Any Other Name by Jennifer Kitchens

As many of you know, I also have an adult book blog called Clean Adult Fiction where I post my reviews of the adult books I read. If I read a great 5 star book, especially when the character is younger, I share it on my teen blog too. This book was WONDERFUL!! The main character is 18, but the love interest is 25, putting it in the ‘New Adult’ genre.

A Woman in Hiding
Nicole Farrington’s life had never been easy, but it had always been bearable. At least it had been until now. Faced with a horrible marriage her step-brother has contracted for her, she will do anything to get away. She’ll run—run to anyone who might be able to help her. But running blindly down an unknown path may take her to an unexpected destination.

A Man Seeking Answers
Julian Huntington, Earl of Foxley, wants nothing more than to have his carefree life back. Now he is left with a title, a child, and a future that he never expected would be his. He refuses to believe his brother’s death was an accident, no matter what people say. Someone killed him and Julian plans to find out who and why. Maybe then he can go on with his life—his brother’s life. But will the answers he seeks be enough, or will he find love to be a worthier goal?

My Thoughts:
I want to start by saying that I met the author, Jennifer, through book blogging first. I love that she is now an author!! Congratulations Jennifer! Her book blog is Clean Romance Reviews, check it out.

This book was wonderful! The romance was so beautiful and comfortable making the read so enjoyable. Nicole was 18 years old and running from a terrible marriage her step-brother arranged for her to pay his debts. I loved her strength and ability to try and choose her life’s path.

Julian, 25, was the man she goes to for help. He recently inherited a title and property because of the death of his older brother who had a young child. Julian had to learn his new responsibilities not just for his new home but for a new daughter as well all while trying to find a explanation to his brother’s death.

I loved this book! Not only did it have a great romance, but it also had a very intriguing and mystery solving plot. So great! If you love clean regency romance like I do then you’ll LOVE this one.

Book Review: Finding June by Shannen Crane Camp

Title: Finding June
Author: Shannen Crane Camp
Publisher: Sugar Coated Press
Release Date: December 2012
Pages: 184
Series: June #1
5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

Standing up for what you believe in is hard for any teenager in the battleground known as high school. It’s even harder in the world of Hollywood, which is where sixteen-year-old June Laurie dreams of being. Thanks to the constant training from her agent/grandmother and the support of her best friend Joseph, June is positive she’s ready. But is an innocent little Mormon girl like June ever really ready to be cast as the love interest for the country’s hottest star, Lukas Leighton? When June lands a role in Hollywood’s most popular crime drama, Forensic Faculty, she finds herself caught off-guard by the fast-paced world of tabloids and paparazzi, and swept off her feet by her gorgeous co-star. Now June must decide what she’s willing to give up to achieve the title of Hollywood starlet—or more importantly, what’s too sacred to lose.

My Thoughts:
I finished this book on Christmas and didn’t take any notes because I was enjoying it too much! It was a fast and fun read. It’s LDS fiction which is the same as Christian fiction but with some specific Latter-Day Saint/Mormon vocabulary, for example- seminary. Seminary is a morning class (normally around 6am) that high school age kids can attend that discusses the scriptures. These kind of possibly unfamiliar terms were explained well enough for those of you not familiar with the LDS faith.

I love stories where the every day character finds herself thrown into the hustle and bustle of Hollywood life. June had been an actress since she was very young but never for anything big then she landed a roll in the hottest crime show on tv. Oh the drama!

The romance and friendships in Finding June were so fun to watch grow. This was another great book by Shannen Crane Camp. If you love contemporary fiction with the flare of Hollywood then you’ll love this book!

Book Review: The Diamond Secret by Suzanne Weyn

Title: The Diamond Secret
Author: Suzanne Weyn
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Release Date: June 2009
Pages: 240
Series: none (a group of fairytale re-tellings “Once Upon A Time”)
4 Stars: I Really Liked It

Nadya is a mischievous kitchen girl in a Russian tavern. Having nearly drowned in the Iset River during the turmoil of the Revolution, she has no memory of her past and longs for the life she cannot remember. Then two young men arrive at the tavern and announce that Nadya’s long-lost grandmother has sent them to find her. Yearning for family and friendship, she agrees to accompany them to Paris for the joyful reunion. Nadya eagerly embarks on her journey, never dreaming it will be one of laughter, love ; and betrayal.

My Thoughts:
I love the books in this ‘series.’ It’s not really a series since the books are by different authors and completely different stories. If you love clean romance and fairytale retellings you’ll love these books! The Diamond Secret was a great read. I loved the time period. This was a retelling of Anastasia set in the time of the Russian civil war. I don’t know a lot about that time, but I always find historical fiction set around war very interesting.

Nadya was one tough heroine. She really was great. Sometimes I sort of like the guy characters more but not this time. I really think Nadya was amazing! She was rough on the outside and sensitive on the inside. She took an amazing journey to discover herself, family, and love. The guys were great too. They had a tough journey for sure.

A quick, entertaining, and romantic read! Check out all the “Once Upon A Time” books below.

Book Review: From Fame to Shame by Veronica Blade

Title: From Fame to Shame
Author: Veronica Blade
Publisher: Crush Publishing Inc.
Release Date: April 2012
Pages: 125
Series: none?
4 Stars: I Really Liked It

When good-girl Maddie switches places with her famous bad-girl twin Jackie, she has some pretty high stilettos to fill.

Despite the danger of tabloid drama if their identity swap is discovered, Maddie has to save her sister’s butt. When Jackie’s ex-boyfriend shows up with a rekindled spark for “Jackie,” his deep gray eyes and sweet kisses make Maddie’s heart thumpety thump. But dating the guy who dumped her sister is a no-no. Too bad Dallas isn’t used to girls saying no. What will happen when he discovers Maddie’s deception?

My Thoughts:
Two weeks before the start of the story Maddie graduated high school. She goes to visit her movie star twin sister, who left home at 16, in Hollywood. Jackie is stressed about the spotlight consequences and needs a break and needs Maddie to pose as her. I love stories about ‘regular’ teens finding themselves in the spotlight. Isn’t it every teenage girl’s dream to meet her celebrity crush?! I know I wanted to meet Justin Timberlake back in his N*SYNC days. Wow, that ages me. Anyway, this was a really fun story.

Dallas, the famous guy living across the hall from Maddie, was a genuinely great guy, thoughtful and attentive. Such a romantic story!

A great romance with fun mishaps in the world of Hollywood stars! If you love contemporary romantic fiction then you’ll love this book.

Book Review: Redemption by Rebecca Gober and Courtney Nuckels

THIS IS BOOK 2 IN THE SERIES!
Book 1: Night Marchers ( MY REVIEW )

Title: Redemption
Author: Rebecca Gober and Courtney Nuckels
Publisher: self
Release Date: February 2012
Pages: 177
Series: Night Marchers #2
4 Stars: I Really Liked It

He would endure a thousand deaths for her, but would she let him? Torn between two men that love her, Emma Townsend is forced to make choices no seventeen-year-old should ever be forced to make. With her friends at her side, Emma embarks on an adventure full of danger, deceit and betrayal as she tries to redeem Kai, the man who made the ultimate sacrifice for her. When Emma discovers that setting a Night Marcher free is no easy task, she is forced to make a very unlikely alliance. How far will Emma be willing to go to save Kai, and will she be able to do so before it’s too late?

My Thoughts:
Redemption started right where Night Marchers left off. I was hooked pretty quickly into the story since I really liked Emma from book 1. I think the writing matured and flowed much better this time. I really enjoyed this entertaining read.

This was definitely a love triangle that could break your heart with built-love and insta-love. In stories with love triangles I think the guy the girl isn’t leaning toward is the under-dog. I’ll root for the under-dog to get a girl that deserves him instead of being upset that girl didn’t choose him. No nice guy deserves to be with a girl in love with someone else. So . . . love-triangles don’t bother me too much as long as the girl doesn’t string both guys along forever. For most of the story Emma knew who she wanted. It was interesting to see how it worked out.

I loved the action and the suspense in this book. I was scared for her life at times! Fun, suspenseful, romantic, Redemption was a great book!

Book Review: The Fairytale Keeper by Andrea Cefalo

Title: The Fairytale Keeper: Avenging The Queen
Author: Andrea Cefalo
Publisher: Scarlet Primrose Press
Release Date: June 2012
Pages: 280
Series: The Fairytale Keeper #1
3 Stars: I Liked It

Snow White was a pet name her mother had given her, but her mother’s dead now. Adelaide hates that name anyway. A rampant fever claimed Adelaide’s mother just like a thousand others in Cologne where the people die without Last Rites and the dead are dumped in a large pit outside of the city walls. Adelaide’s father is determined to obtain a funeral for his wife, but that requires bribing the parish priest, Father Soren. When Soren commits an unforgivable atrocity, he pushes Adelaide to her breaking point, but if she seeks justice against the cruel priest, she risks sacrificing everything: her father, her friends, her first love, and maybe even her life.

My Thoughts:
I didn’t expect this story to be as dark as it was. It was pretty sad and depressing without a lot of hope of change. During the first half of the book I couldn’t find a plot. There just seemed to be misery without an end or a goal to change. I couldn’t figure out the point of it all. Halfway through the book the plot picked up with a determined plan. I enjoyed the second half and rooted for good to triumph over evil. 🙂

I liked the addition of different fairytales within the fairytale of Snow White. Some characters from Cinderella, The Shoemaker and The Elf, and The 6 Swans made entrances into the story. It was a good book that I think you’d like if you like dark tales.

Book Review: Reached by Ally Condie

THIS IS BOOK 3 IN A SERIES!
Book 1: Matched ( MY REVIEW )
Book 2: Crossed ( MY REVIEW )

Title: Reached
Author: Ally Condie
Publisher: Dutton Children’s Books
Release Date: November 2012
Pages: 512
Series: Matched #3
4 Stars: I Really Liked It

After leaving Society and desperately searching for the Rising—and each other—Cassia and Ky have found what they were looking for, but at the cost of losing each other yet again: Cassia has been assigned to work for the Rising from within Society, while Ky has been stationed outside its borders. But nothing is as predicted, and all too soon the veil lifts and things shift once again.

In this gripping conclusion to the #1 New York Times-bestselling Matched trilogy, Cassia will reconcile the difficulties of challenging a life too confining, seeking a freedom she never dreamed possible, and honoring a love she cannot live without.

My Thoughts:
This review is really late! I read this book weeks ago!

I loved these characters! Reached, the final book in the Matched series, featured points of view from the three main characters: Cassia, Ky, and XANDER! Oh Xander … what can I say about how wonderful he was?! Ky was a great guy too. His life had been difficult, but he showed his strength with his devoted love to Cassia. Cassia learned new things about herself and her society. I enjoyed watching her progress. My only complaint would be that it felt slow at times, but I understand that not every book can be all action and romance.

I have to say that this is the BEST ending to any series I’ve ever read! I’ve never been more happy with the ending of a series. Their lives at the end were definitely not perfect, but I felt that everything worked out like it should. I’m not going to spoil the read for anyone so I’ll just say that during a romantic scene at the end I was totally crying and saying things like, “That is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard!” as my voice got higher and squeakier. Hahaha you know a romance is beautiful when it makes me cry.

This was a great series! You all should read it!

Book Review: Surrender by Elana Johnson

THIS IS BOOK 2 IN A SERIES!
Book 1: Possession ( MY REVIEW )

Title: Surrender
Author: Elana Johnson
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Release Date: June 2012
Pages: 480
Series: Possession #2
4 Stars: I Really Liked It

Forbidden love, intoxicating power, and the terror of control…

Raine has always been a good girl. She lives by the rules in Freedom. After all, they are her father’s rules: He’s the Director. It’s because of him that Raine is willing to use her talent—a power so dangerous, no one else is allowed to know about it. Not even her roommate, Vi.

All of that changes when Raine falls for Gunner. Raine’s got every reason in the world to stay away from Gunn, but she just can’t. Especially when she discovers his connection to Vi’s boyfriend, Zenn. Raine has never known anyone as heavily brainwashed as Vi. Raine’s father expects her to spy on Vi and report back to him. But Raine is beginning to wonder what Vi knows that her father is so anxious to keep hidden, and what might happen if she helps Vi remember it. She’s even starting to suspect Vi’s secrets might involve Freedom’s newest prisoner, the rebel Jag Barque….

My Thoughts:
This review is really late in coming. I finished this book weeks ago! My wonderful friend Sara bought me the eBook of Surrender after she heard me talking about how much I loved Possession and couldn’t wait to read Surrender. So sweet and thoughtful! Shout out to my girl Sara! Thanks! Miss you!

I didn’t write any notes while reading this book besides the content stuff. Which means I enjoyed it and didn’t want to stop to write notes. The only reason why this book gets 4 instead of 5 stars is because I was confused more than I’d prefer. The world and rules seemed different in this book than in book 1 so I had a hard time following the changes and understanding the settings.

I loved getting to know these new characters Raine and Gunner. They were awesome with their own skills. Vi and Jag from book 1 were side characters this time. I loved them so much from Possession that is was hard for me to want to read someone else’s story actually.

This book was a great addition to the series. I can’t wait for book 3! Surrender was full of stop your breathing excitement and melt your heart romance. A fantastic read!
