When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every thirty days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue–Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is–she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are–and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, Tris also learns that her secret might help her save the ones she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Jane Hayes is a seemingly normal young New Yorker, but she has a secret. Her obsession with Mr. Darcy, as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, is ruining her love life: no real man can compare. But when a wealthy relative bequeaths her a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane’s fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become realer than she ever could have imagined.

Decked out in empire-waist gowns, Jane struggles to master Regency etiquette and flirts with gardeners and gentlemen;or maybe even, she suspects, with the actors who are playing them. It’s all a game, Jane knows. And yet the longer she stays, the more her insecurities seem to fall away, and the more she wonders: Is she about to kick the Austen obsession for good, or could all her dreams actually culminate in a Mr. Darcy of her own?

Book Review: Imaginable by J. Meyers

THIS IS BOOK 2 IN THE SERIES!
Book 1: Intangible

image and summary from Goodreads

Title: Imaginable
Author: J. Meyers
Publisher: J. Meyers
Release Date: April 2013
Pages: 342
Series: Intangible #2
5 STARTS: I LOVED IT!!!

Twins Sera and Luke Raine’s unusual abilities are growing. Sera is healing vampires now, making them human again. And, at times, Luke can actually change the future he Sees.

But Sera’s healing has dangerous consequences, and though Luke is altering the outcome of more visions, he can’t control them yet.

Now Sera is in danger as the dark creatures of the Realm seek to use her. As Luke struggles to master his gift in order to save his sister, he discovers even more about his powers.

And what he learns just may put him in greater danger than Sera has ever been.

My Thoughts:
I love books in a series. It was so fun to feel connected to the characters so quickly because I already knew them. I’m usually not a fan of paranormal, but I loved this book!

The book started a month or more after Intangible ended with POVs from Luke and Sera and sometimes Fey and Jonas. There was some romantic relationships building up throughout the book. Cute. Happy. Sad. Frustrating! I really want to see more of these unique love stories and can’t wait to read the next book.

Full of amazing characters, Imaginable was about relationships. I loved the relationship between the twins Luke and Sera. Luke was hilarious! They had a loyal friend named Quinn who really became a favorite of mine. Other friends were able to show their loyalty and bravery as things got intense and suspenseful. Jonas was cool as always but was seriously a scary and fierce vampire.

Imaginable was intense, exciting, and full of paranormal. A must read for YA paranormal fans!

Book Review: Abandon by Elana Johnson

THIS IS BOOK 3 IN THE SERIES!
Book 1: Possession
Book 2: Surrender

image and summary from Goodreads

Title: Abandon
Author: Elana Johnson
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Release Date: June 2013
Pages: 408
Series: Possession #3
 5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

seduced by power,
broken by control,
and consumed by love…

Vi has made her choice between Jag and Zenn, and the Resistance may have suffered for it. But with the Thinkers as strong as ever, the rebels still have a job to do. Vi knows better than anyone that there’s more at stake than a few broken hearts.

But there is a traitor among them…and the choices he makes could lead to the total destruction of everything Vi has fought for.

Vi, Jag, and Zenn must set their problems aside for the Resistance to have any hope of ending the Thinkers’ reign. Their success means everything…and their failure means death.

My Thoughts:
I was so torn about this rating. It was hard to come to a decision. I wanted to read it every minute of every day. When I wasn’t reading it I wanted to be. The plot and characters were on my mind constantly. That for me means it was a 5 star book… when I’m that obsessed. I’m just so ANGRY about the ending. I did see it coming and it added to the drama, but I didn’t like it!

Each book in the series had different characters telling their POV. This book was Jag and Zenn. I was so attached to the other characters from previous books that I wished the POV was from all of them, especially Gunn, Vi, and Raine.

This book broke my heart at times. Zenn’s love for Vi made my heart ache. Zenn was my favorite. He was so complex, but with half of the book from his POV he was easy to understand. I felt every emotion with him: heart ache, new love, confusion, anger, fear. This roller coaster of emotions will make you cry… I sure did.

Jagg was still tough and a hard shell to break as the resistance leader. He had some swoony scenes with Vi though. Definitely made me smile.

The end was frustrating, and I didn’t see the purpose for it. It seemed out of character from the rest of the books. Some bad choices by main characters were made that weren’t explained, but maybe that’s the point. No ones perfect.

The Possession series was inventive and thrilling. I loved these books! Abandon was just as wonderful to read. If you haven’t read these books you need to… like soon.

Book Review: So Over My Head by Jenny B. Jones

THIS IS BOOK 3 IN THE SERIES!
Book 1: So Not Happening
Book 2: I’m So Sure

image and summary from Goodreads

Title: So Over My Head
Author: Jenny B. Jones
Publisher: Thomas Nelson Publishers
Release Date: May 2010
Pages: 326
Series: The Charmed Life #3
4 Stars: I Really Liked It

Newly single, stalked by a killer, and in desperate need of some chic clown shoes–Bella is one skinny mocha frapp away from total meltdown. When the Fritz Family Carnival makes its annual appearance in Truman, Bella’s keen reporter instincts tell her the bright lights hide more than they reveal. Her suspicions are confirmed when one of the stars is murdered. Though the police make an immediate arrest, Bella doubts this case is quite that simple. She needs her crime-solving boyfriend, Luke, more than ever. Problem is, his ex-girlfriend has moved back to town, giving Bella some murderous thoughts of her own. Then again, there’s no time for a relationship crisis when Bella’s doing her best to derail her father’s wedding and stay one step ahead of a killer. Is God sending her a message in all of this madness? With a murderer on the loose and her boyfriend’s ex on the prowl, this undercover clown has never had more to juggle–or more to risk.

My Thoughts:
Another hilarious read in this super fun series. Bella found herself part of the circus… literally… LOL. She was so focused on solving a murder that happened at the circus that she decided to join up as a clown. Ruthie was a fun sidekick this time, but she came across ditzy unlike just tough in the other book. I liked the murder mystery part of the story. Definitely intriguing.

The relationship part of the story was annoying. I couldn’t figure Luke out! What was the deal?! But I did eventually realize how much Bella needed to grow and work through.  She also wasn’t happy about her Dad wanting to remarry.

This was a fun read with lots of mystery and a great end to the series! If you like funny, clean, contemporary YA fiction you’d love this series.

Book Review: I’m So Sure by Jenny B. Jones

THIS IS BOOK 2 IN THE SERIES
Book 1: So Not Happening

image and summary from Goodreads

Title: I’m So Sure
Author: Jenny B. Jones
Publisher: Thomas Nelson Publishers
Release Date: November 2009
Pages: 312
Series: The Charmed Life #2
5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

Living in Truman, Oklahoma wasn’t 100% miserable for Bella. Sure, she misses Manhattan, couture clothes, and her dad. But she was making new friends at Truman High and almost enjoying her work at the school newspaper. Then the whole stepdad-wrestler-reality-show issue hit and her life is now being splashed across weekly tabloids and broadcast news. As if having a camera crew following her around isn’t bad enough, Bella soon discovers a conspiracy against the Truman High prom queen candidates. And the closer she gets to the answer, the more danger she’s in.

As her relationship with Luke teeters between friendship and romance, Bella’s ex-boyfriend Hunter reappears and vies for Bella’s attention. Denying allegations of a love triangle, working to solve the prom queen mystery, and trying to keep her cool on national television finally motivate Bella to start talking–and listening–to God more.

But what comes next has Bella once again screaming: “I’M. SO. SURE.”

My Thoughts:
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much while reading a book. The voice of Bella, the MC, was spunky, cute, and fun. Bella was a rich girl now transplanted into country life. Her little step-brother even had a pet cow. Her step-dad was a wrestler trying to make it pro so her family ended up on a reality tv show.

While camera men followed her around and splashed her ‘love life’ on the tabloids she became like Nancy Drew. Bella felt she was the best one to do the detective work and couldn’t just leave all the fun for the police. The mystery kept the story moving and interesting while the every day life of a teenage girl like Bella kept it hilarious.

I’m So Sure was another great book in The Charmed Life series. I wish there was more at the end, but that’s what book 3 is for!

Book Review: Pwned by Shannen Crane Camp

image and summary from Goodreads

Title: Pwned
Author: Shannen Crane Camp
Publisher: Sugar Coated Press
Release Date: April 2013
Pages: 248
Series: none
5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

Reagan West has a perfect life. She’s at the top of the high school food chain as co-captain of the cheerleading squad and she’s best friends with the most evil girl in Albany, Tawny Perez, which means she’s never on the receiving end of her wrath. The only trouble in Reagan’s perfect life comes from the constant threat of her dirty little secret leaking to her fellow classmates and casting her into a lifetime of ridicule.

Reagan West is a closet gamer and hates her role as the evil cheerleader.

But, as any well versed teenager knows, it’s better to suppress your own nerdy tendencies than to submit to a lifetime of being shoved into lockers and so, Reagan bravely soldiers through life as a reluctant bully… until a boy from her guild moves to her school and becomes Tawny’s next target. The newcomer threatens to reveal Reagan’s nerdy little secret and force her to come to terms with who she truly is. Now Reagan has to decide if she’s going to defend her fellow geeks, or if she’ll continue to be a total troll.

My Thoughts:
Shannen Crane Camp is such a fun author! Love her. If you like Janette Rallison then you’ll like Shannen Crane Camp.

The voice of Reagan cracked me up from the very beginning. She was pretty silly at times, especially at the beginning. She was insecure with skewed priorities. Not a great combination. At least the reason why she acted the way she did was explained even if I didn’t think it was the best choice. But hey, it’s fun to watch a character grow. Paker/Rekap was awesome, such a great friend and a good looking “nerd.”

This wasn’t a super intense book that I just couldn’t put down, but when I wasn’t reading it I was thinking about it and wondering what was going to happen next in Reagan’s life. I’ve never played an online computer game, but that didn’t matter. Reading about a hard-core gamer was like reading a book with a soccer player main character when you don’t play soccer. It was fun to learn a little more about gaming, a world on its own.

Read Pwned whether you game or not. It was laugh out loud funny and a fun insight into high school life.

Book Review: Unenchanted by Chanda Hahn

image and summary from Goodreads

Title: UnEnchanted
Author: Chanda Hahn
Publisher: Chanda Hahn
Release Date: 2011
Pages: 216
Series: An Unfortunate Fairy Tale #1
5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

Mina Grime is unlucky, unpopular and uncoordinated, that is until she saves her crush’s life on a field trip, changing her High School status from loser to hero overnight. But with her newfound fame brings misfortune as an old family curse come to light. For Mina is descended from the Brothers Grimm and has inherited all of their unfinished fairy tale business. Which includes trying to outwit a powerful Story from making her its next fairytale victim.

To break the fairy tale curse on her family and stop these deadly events, Mina must finish the tales until the very Grimm end.

My Thoughts:

I finished reading this book while walking the hospital breezeway trying to progress what turned out to be false labor. It was almost midnight, and I was told to walk for an hour and a half. Even with that exhausting and annoying real life experience happening I still LOVED this book! Random info I thought you might like to know. 🙂 Thank you Chanda Hahn for writing a book that could take me away for a few hours when I really needed it.

UnEnchanted was such a surprising delight! I loved it! What more can I say? It was unique and interesting. Mina was a main character I felt was my best friend that I wanted to see succeed. There were short spurts of POV from most of the side characters at least once. Sometimes that style of POV change can be confusing or annoying, but it was really well done and added to the story.

I’m going to gush a little about Brody. Oh sigh. He was super sweet and seriously the PERFECT modern-day Prince. Handsome and Gentlemanly.

The ending made me want to scream! If I didn’t think things would get worked out in the next book then I would probably hate this book because of the ending. BUT I believe things will work out. I need to read book 2 soon to find out.

If you love fairy tales or just really good books with romance then you’ll love this book!
