3 Stars: It Was OK

Falling in Love, baking a magical cake, fighting an evil necromancer—it’s all in a day’s work for Audrey Oliver, seventeen-year-old witch-in-training.

When her mother goes missing and her twenty-one-year-old witchy cousin shows up out of the blue, Audrey knows something’s gone horribly, dangerously wrong. Now it’s up to her to get her own magical powers up to speed before everyone she loves is destroyed by the sorcerer intricately connected to her mother’s secret past.

My Thoughts:
I finished this book a few months ago. It wasn’t really my thing for some reason.

Audrey was a 17 year old junior in high school. Her dad had died when she was 10, and now her mom had gone missing. She looked for clues to find out what happened to her mom. Her older cousin Sadie came to watch them while her mom was away. Sadie was pretty cool and definitely interesting. Audrey had a younger sister Meg to protect and try to keep in the dark of the magical world.

For me the book was too long and felt slow. About 3/4 through it started to get more exciting and intense. I really enjoyed the last 1/4 of the book. If you like books with magic you might like it more than I did. More sexual content and language than I prefer combined with the fact that I didn’t connect with the main character made this book just okay for me.

Content Ratings: highlight between ( ) to view details
Sexual Content: moderate ( suggestive talk, boy found girl hiding in bush naked, kissing, makeout scene: rolling on couch and floor- necking- tongue, mention of groping )
Language: moderate ( God-56, God d***-2, Jesus-1, d***-2, sh**-3, h***-12, a**-16, bi***-1, lesbo-1 )
Violence: moderate ( threats, injuries, attacks, blood, demons, decapitated, torture by magic )
Other: mild ( talk of teen drinking )

I received the book from Jody Gehrman. Thank you! I am not paid for my reviews. My reviews are solely my opinion.
