Book Review: Coren by Morgun Wolf and Heyden Redding

Title: Coren: Remnants of Betrayal
Author: Morgun Wolf & Heyden Redding
Publisher: Scott Dean Publishing Ltd
Release Date: January 2012
Pages:
Series: Remnants of Betrayal #1
2.5 STARS: It Was OK

Ages have passed into time immemorial since the Ancient Ones displaced the Old Magic of the Dragons with their New Magic. But the New Magic fostered hatred and jealousy, with factions warring among themselves until they were lost to myth and legend – now nearly forgotten. And the New Magic faded.
But there was a time to come, a time for healing and renewal. And there were those chosen to protect the relics from generation to generation, until the time of prophecy should be fulfilled.
Until the time of COREN.

My Thoughts:
This review is really late! I read this book weeks ago.

This book wasn’t for me, but let’s start with what I liked. The characters were interesting making me want to know what would happen to them. The overall plot also was great with action and suspense.

The problem was that it was a little slow in between the action. I also didn’t like how the narration skipped from character to character. It felt sporadic and all over the place. I don’t mind the POV from 2 or 3 characters, but this was too much with views from lots of side characters and villains. I don’t like villain view points because that normally gives away part of the mystery surrounding the plot. I know these dislikes are my own opinion, and other people enjoy that in a book. I might have missed it, but I never knew how old the main character Ben was. That was just a small annoyance. I pictured him around 20.

With that said, there were some really great entertaining scenes that I enjoyed. If you like books with an overall view of all the characters then try this one out, you might like it.

Waiting On Wednesday: Finding June by Shannen Crane Camp

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly post, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine , where we spotlight a book we are anxiously waiting to be published.

Finding June
By Shannen Crane Camp
Publisher: Sugar Coated Press
Release Date: December 20, 2012

Standing up for what you believe in is hard for any teenager in the battleground known as high school. It’s even harder in the world of Hollywood, which is where sixteen-year-old June Laurie dreams of being. Thanks to the constant training from her agent/grandmother and the support of her best friend Joseph, June is positive she’s ready. But is an innocent little Mormon girl like June ever really ready to be cast as the love interest for the country’s hottest star, Lukas Leighton? When June lands a role in Hollywood’s most popular crime drama, Forensic Faculty, she finds herself caught off-guard by the fast-paced world of tabloids and paparazzi, and swept off her feet by her gorgeous co-star. Now June must decide what she’s willing to give up to achieve the title of Hollywood starlet—or more importantly, what’s too sacred to lose.

Doesn’t this book look and sound fabulous?! I love the dress and her hair color! Many of you know that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also known as Mormons. When a book features an LDS character then it’s called LDS Fiction. You don’t have to be LDS to read it though. 🙂 It’s Christian Fiction. I’m really looking forward to reading this one. I love the whole normal girl meets Hollywood star premise.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Timeless: This or That with DREW!!!

This is an amazing series! I hope you all have read it or put it at the top of your to-read list. 🙂 I’m so excited to host the super cute main guy character, Drew Carmichael, for a little This or That interview. Here’s what he had to say.

This or That with Drew Carmichael

Me: Steak or Salad?
Drew: Steak, no question. Cooked medium.

Beach or Mountain?
Mountain, because there’s skiing. The harder the slope, the better.

SUV or Motorcycle?
Depends on the SUV. If it’s a cool one, then SUV. If it’s a soccer mom one, then
motorcycle.

Dance or Concert?
Assuming the concert is for a band I like, then concert, no contest. Just don’t drag me to
a Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, or whatever concert that girls like going to.

NYC or LA?
NYC = easily the best city in America.

Cake or Pie?
I rarely eat either, but I guess pie.

Past or Present?
Present. Because then there’s more control over the future.

Lizzie or Chelsea?
Do you really need to ask?

Thank you, Kathryn, for having me on Clean Teen Fiction for the Timeless blog tour!

Thanks Drew!!

MY REVIEWS:
Remembrance (book 1)
Vengeance (book 2)
Timeless (book 3)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Michelle Madow was inspired to write Remembrance after seeing Taylor Swift’s “Love
Story” music video while a junior at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. The song and
video gave her the story idea about a high school girl reincarnated from Regency Era,
England. She handed in the first chapter as a homework assignment for class, and when
her teacher and classmates wanted her to continue writing, she decided to go for it. By
the end of the school year, her first novel was completed!

Michelle graduated from the Park School of Baltimore in 2005, where she always took
two English classes each semester. She graduated from Rollins College in 2010, cum
laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English. At Rollins she was a member of the National
Society of Collegiate Scholars, and a member of the International English Honor Society
Sigma Tau Delta.

She received the Charles Hyde Pratt Award for Excellence in Creative Writing in 2010.

Michelle lives in Florida, where she is hard at work writing more novels for young adults.

4 Stars: I Really Liked It

IT’S A RACE AGAINST TIME.

In Remembrance, Lizzie and Drew changed the course of fate so they could be together.

In Vengeance, Chelsea set fate back on its original, deadly path.

Now, strange things keep happening to Lizzie. Things that are omens of darkness to come. A curse has doomed her to die an early death, just as she did in her past life. To make things worse, even if she can figure out who cast the curse, it’s irreversible. There’s only one option left for her to save herself. It’s crazier than anything she’s heard yet, and to do it, she’ll need Drew and Chelsea’s help.

Because to make things right, they must go back to when it all began …

My Thoughts:
This was a great end to a fantastic love story! I love these characters- Drew, Lizzie, and Chelsea are each unique, and I wanted to see how things would turn out for them.

The time travel twist in this book was great because I love historical fiction. It was fun to see the three main characters go back in time and dress up for balls and try to act all Regency. Loved it!

The story was sweet, romantic, entertaining, and suspenseful, an all-around great read! If you haven’t read Remembrance (book 1) you really need to.

MIA and Books For Review

Hi my lovely blog friends!! I’m sad that I’ve been really Missing In Action the past few weeks. It’s been 3 1/2 weeks since my last post. How is that possible?! Those weeks flew by. I guess I have Thanksgiving week as an excuse. Anyway, my family always takes priority which means my hobbies- reading, writing, and blogging- have to take a back seat sometimes. I few months ago I decided to reduce the time I spent on blogging so I could focus more of my free time on writing my book which is coming along! I still plan to do fun memes when I have the time and post a review for the books I read.

Since I’ve been trying to cut back there are some books I was given from authors/publishers for review that I won’t get to read anytime soon or possibly at all. The thing is I really think I would enjoy some of these books so I will most likely read them eventually. 🙂

Title: Possession
Author: Elana Johnson
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Release Date: June 2011
Pages: 416
Series: Possession #1
5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

Vi knows the Rule: Girls don’t walk with boys, and they never even think about kissing them. But no one makes Vi want to break the Rules more than Zenn…and since the Thinkers have chosen him as Vi’s future match, how much trouble can one kiss cause? The Thinkers may have brainwashed the rest of the population, but Vi is determined to think for herself.

But the Thinkers are unusually persuasive, and they’re set on convincing Vi to become one of them…starting by brainwashing Zenn. Vi can’t leave Zenn in the Thinkers’ hands, but she’s wary of joining the rebellion, especially since that means teaming up with Jag. Jag is egotistical, charismatic, and dangerous–everything Zenn’s not. Vi can’t quite trust Jag and can’t quite resist him, but she also can’t give up on Zenn.

This is a game of control or be controlled. And Vi has no choice but to play.

My Thoughts:
Oh wow this book was wonderful!!! I loved it and can’t wait to get my hands on Surrender (book 2).

The premise to Possession reminded me of Matched by Ally Condie. It turned out that Possession was very different from Matched, the similarity was the dystopian world which a lot of books have these days.

Violet, Vi for short, was an amazing character, very strong and defiant. At first it was hard to relate to her desire for rule breaking because I’m the opposite of a rule breaker, but as the story went along I understood her more and loved her for her “bad” ways. Jag was funny, confident, and a fellow rule breaker. They made a great team.

There were twists and turns throughout that made me scream and squeal. You know it’s a great read when your emotions are front and center, ready to laugh or yell. The ending was maddening! I’m so glad the 2nd book is already out so I don’t have to wait to see what happens next. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a great romance with an exciting plot in a dystopian world.

Have you read this book? What did you think?

Book Review: Silver by Cheree Alsop

Title: Silver
Author: Cheree Alsop
Publisher: Cheree Alsop
Release Date: December 2011
Pages: 179
Series: The Silver #1
4 Stars: I Really Liked It

Silver, book one of the Silver Series, is a coming of age story about a teenage werewolf whose father is murdered. He has to come to terms with his new life, new school, and new friends while trying to prevent more killings. Attempting to make peace with the territory’s pack and falling in love with a werewolf hunter’s daughter make his new situation even more perilous.

My Thoughts:
This book was so great!!! Finishing it on Halloween made it even more fun since a werewolf was the main character. I personally thought the cover looked like a horror book which I don’t enjoy reading, but it definitely was not a horror, just exciting.

The story was told from Jaze’s point of view. He’s a 17 year old werewolf. I haven’t read a lot of books from male perspectives and wasn’t sure if I’d like it, but I actually loved hearing from Jaze. He was my favorite character in the story. Sometimes the main character in books can annoy me with their terrible choices. That was not the case with Jaze. In my eyes, he couldn’t do wrong. He was smart, caring, strong, brave, and loyal. He had some great friends that added to the story: Mouse, Brock, and Nikki.

The romance was not front and center in this story, but when the scenes came they were so sweet! I loved the way the romance built up throughout.

Jaze goes through a lot in a new town with a hostile werewolf pack nearby. All around this book was such an awesome read. If you enjoy books with suspense, fighting, and romance you’ll love this one. The eBook is currently FREE on Amazon.
