5 Stars: I LOVED IT!
Tris’s initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable–and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.
“New York Times” bestselling author Veronica Roth’s much-anticipated second book of the dystopian “Divergent” series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.
My Thoughts:
Wow. This book made me so stressed. Talk about feeling attached to the characters! This book and series is great if you love adventure and sitting on the edge of your seat while biting your nails.
Insurgent started right where Divergent ended. I hadn’t read Divergent in awhile so I was a bit lost at first with all the names and references to what happened. I still think I should go back and re-read these books. They are so full of detail. I loved the world building. These people are in factions where their good attributes are starting to show flaws. Take the faction Dauntless for example. Bravery was great until some let it turn into recklessness. It’s so interesting to see how everyone reacts to the bad things happening.
Tris had been through a lot in book 1. Her behavior was now a bit unpredictable. Tris wasn’t the type of heroine who fights to live. She was very human and flawed and raw at this point. She was so real. That’s why I loved her character even more in this book.
There were some really funny parts though for it being such a suspenseful book. I seriously laughed out loud, surprised at the humor. It was a great read! I can’t wait for the next installment. The last words I wrote in my notes immediately after finishing the book were: Intense. Exciting. Heart Pounding.
