Book 1- Glamorous Illusions- MY REVIEW

Title: Grave Consequences
Author: Lisa T. Bergren
Publisher: David C. Cook
Release Date: March 2013
Pages: 448
Series: Grand Tour Series #2
4 STARS: I Really Liked It

For Cora Kensington, the journey of a lifetime takes unexpected twists. And her future—her very life—depends on the decisions she’ll make at each crossroad. As her European tour with her newfound family takes her through Austria, France, and Italy, an unseen enemy trails close behind. Meanwhile, a forbidden love continues to claim her heart, putting everyone’s plans in danger.

And as Cora stays one step ahead of it all, what might need the most protection is her own heart, torn between the dramatic pursuit of a dashing Frenchman and a man who has been quietly staking claim to her affections all along. Love has dangers all its own. She must escape the bonds of the past and discover the faith to make the right choices, as each one has grave consequences.

My Thoughts:
This series really took me on a beautiful guide of Europe, making me want to visit! Next time I’ll have to read it with a map of Europe nearby because I wished I understood the references better. That was a little frustrating.

Cora not only traveled through Europe, but she traveled through love. She had to make decisions on whether she would pursue one or both of the men looking for her attention, Pierre and Will. Pierre was so charming and extremely rich, and Will was so lovable. Pierre was the man her family approved of, and Will was strictly forbidden as a guide on their tour and not rich.

There was mystery and a few tense moments to add to the enjoyment. Overall I loved the story and the characters. Let me say, Hugh was always good for a laugh. Some of the scenery descriptions felt a little long at times, but overall I really enjoyed this read. I look forward to reading book 3 when it comes out in October!

Oh I love anything by Lisa T. Bergren! She’s wonderful! I loved the first book of this series and can’t wait to find out what happens next. I know this is kind of a long wait, but the cover was released recently so I just had to share. I love the cover. It looks mysterious and romantic. *sigh*

5 Stars: I LOVED IT!!!

TRIBUTARY, a novella (1/2 the length of a normal novel), picks up a year after BOURNE… Lia struggles to overcome the fear that constant battle has heaped upon her; Gabi and Marcello face an unexpected crisis; and Lord Greco just may be ready to leave the grief and loss of his past behind him, so that he might grab hold of the future…

My Thoughts:
What a great way to end my favorite series!! I think it was the last book anyway. There was just the right amount of closure. I will miss reading about the lives of these amazing characters: Gabi, Marcello, Lia, Luca, Rodolfo. I still stand by my declaration that this is my all time favorite series!

Even though Luca’s picture was on the cover I think it told more of Lord Rodolfo Greco’s story. Greco was such a great character. We’ve been through a lot with him, lots of ups and downs. Luca was entertaining as always in this one, less serious than in Bourne.

I love the heroines! Gabi and Lia are kick butt kind of girls who won’t get pushed around. These two novellas were more Lia’s story than Gabi’s. It was fun to see where Lia would take us. She’s brave with a kind heart.

If you love the River of Time series like I do, you have to read this last installment. It’s just as wonderful as the earlier books. If you haven’t read this series drop everything you are doing and READ! You won’t regret it.

It’s the summer of 1913 and Cora Kensington’s life on the family farm has taken a dark turn. Not only are the crops failing, but someone dear to Cora is failing as well.

In one fateful afternoon, a stranger comes to call, and Cora discovers a terrible secret about her past…a secret that will radically change her future.

Cora is invited to take the “Grand Tour” of Europe, a journey intended to finish a person’s eduction, to solidify an understanding of ancient culture and contemporary refinement. As she travels from England to France, with kin she’s never known, Cora encounters the blessings of a family name, as well as the curses. But when an unbidden love begins to form, she realizes the journey is only beginning….

The first book in the Grand Tour series will take readers on a journey of cultural refinement, but moreover, explores what truly informs a person’s sense of identity.

My Thoughts:
I loved Lisa T. Bergren’s River of Time series so when I saw this one I knew I had to read it. It was very different from the River of Time books with much less action, but Lisa delivered again with amazing characters you can’t help but fall in love with and scenery you’ll be dying to visit.

Cora (side note: I love that name) was twenty years old when her life changed drastically. Obviously I don’t want to ruin the mystery so I won’t tell you what happens. Some of the other kids her age on the Grand Tour aren’t happy to have a girl from a farm accompanying them. Cora had to learn to maneuver through some tricky relationships. Cora was someone I really wanted to see succeed. I enjoyed watching her journey. There were a few guys with romantic interest involved which always makes the read more interesting for me.

The scenery was beautiful. It made me want to take a tour of Europe. I’ve always wanted visit London and France and Italy. The characters were able to see some amazing sites. There was mystery and excitement throughout. I’m looking forward to continuing the tour with Cora in the next book of the series!

Glamorous Illusions
By Lisa T. Bergren
Publisher: David C. Cook
Release Date: June 1, 2012

When Cora Kensington learns she is the illegitimate daughter of a copper king, her life changes forever. Even as she explores Europe with her new family, she discovers that the most valuable journey is within. The first book in the Grand Tour series takes you from the farms of Montana through England and France on an adventure of forgiveness, spiritual awakening, and self-discovery.

I love The River of Time series by Lisa T. Bergren so I really need to read some more of her stuff! This cover is gorgeous; I love the Eiffel Tower in the background. Not much longer to wait for this one! I featured this for a WoW post on my teen blog not long ago, but now I’ve discovered it is “New Adult.” I’ve heard this term recently, and I think it means an adult book with characters 18-29 years old. Does anyone know exactly?
