New Adult Review: Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson

I consider this AMAZING book New Adult Fiction since the main character was 17 years old, but the love interest was in his 20s. I cannot say enough good things about Edenbrooke. Read it!! I reviewed this book first on my other blog, Clean Adult Fiction.

Title: Edenbrooke
Author: Julianne Donaldson
Publisher: Shadow Mountain
Release Date: March 2012
Pages: 264
Series: none
5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

Marianne Daventry will do anything to escape the boredom of Bath and the amorous attentions of an unwanted suitor. So when an invitation arrives from her twin sister, Cecily, to join her at a sprawling country estate, she jumps at the chance. Thinking she’ll be able to relax and enjoy her beloved English countryside while her sister snags the handsome heir of Edenbrooke, Marianne finds that even the best laid plans can go awry.

From a terrifying run-in with a highwayman to a seemingly harmless flirtation, Marianne finds herself embroiled in an unexpected adventure filled with enough romance and intrigue to keep her mind racing. Will she be able to rein in her traitorous heart, or will a mysterious stranger sweep her off her feet? Fate had something other than a relaxing summer in mind when it sent Marianne to Edenbrooke.

My Thoughts:
Oh my this book was AMAZING!!! I loved it!! This is a book I would recommend to everyone who loves a good romance, a little excitement, mystery, and a lot of laughs.

From the beginning I was attached to Marianne. The poor girl had been shipped off to the city after the death of her mother. Her father had sent her to family in one place and sent her twin sister to another. Separated from her family and the beautiful countryside she felt lost. She left to meet up with her sister at Edenbrooke as soon as the invitation came.

The scenery was breathtaking and made me want to visit the English countryside. Sigh. Maybe one day. I loved the humor that came with some embarrassing moments for Marianne especially in front of handsome men. Just thinking about it makes me want to go re-read this book today.

I’d heard so many good things about Edenbrooke. I don’t know why it took me so long to finally read it! If you want a beautiful, relaxing, romantic read go get this book now! You’ll enjoy it.

4 STARS: I Really Liked It

With his pride and her prejudice, what could possibly go wrong?

When the arrogant Blake Hansen steals Addie Preston’s promotion at the library, he pretty much rubs her nose in it. But Addie, who dreams of being a full-fledged librarian, decides to stick it out. She loves surrounding herself with books and keeping her father’s memory alive in the building where they spent so much time together.

Soon, Addie learns that her beloved library will be torn down to make room for a larger facility, and she has to make a choice. Fight, or let go?

To complicate things, she finds herself attracted to Blake, who is engaged to someone else. Will Blake and Addie ever resolve their differences?

My Thoughts:
This book was a fun and light read. Like many of you I’m a book lover so it was nice to have the main character be a librarian and obsessed with the library and books. When they met, Addie thought her new boss, Blake, was more into business than enjoying the library. Let’s just say they didn’t hit it off at the start. Plus Blake was engaged.

Poor Addie just couldn’t let go of her library. I see why she was attached, but it still annoyed me at times since I’m the opposite of a pack-rat. I feel freedom from throwing things away, but Addie really didn’t want the old library with all her father’s memories replaced.

Blake and Addie had great chemistry. I loved their scenes together, laughing and cringing along with them. Turning Pages was a fun read, perfect for any library lover.

Book Review: Grave Consequences by Lisa T. Bergren

THIS IS BOOK 2 IN THE SERIES!
Book 1- Glamorous Illusions- MY REVIEW

Title: Grave Consequences
Author: Lisa T. Bergren
Publisher: David C. Cook
Release Date: March 2013
Pages: 448
Series: Grand Tour Series #2
4 STARS: I Really Liked It

For Cora Kensington, the journey of a lifetime takes unexpected twists. And her future—her very life—depends on the decisions she’ll make at each crossroad. As her European tour with her newfound family takes her through Austria, France, and Italy, an unseen enemy trails close behind. Meanwhile, a forbidden love continues to claim her heart, putting everyone’s plans in danger.

And as Cora stays one step ahead of it all, what might need the most protection is her own heart, torn between the dramatic pursuit of a dashing Frenchman and a man who has been quietly staking claim to her affections all along. Love has dangers all its own. She must escape the bonds of the past and discover the faith to make the right choices, as each one has grave consequences.

My Thoughts:
This series really took me on a beautiful guide of Europe, making me want to visit! Next time I’ll have to read it with a map of Europe nearby because I wished I understood the references better. That was a little frustrating.

Cora not only traveled through Europe, but she traveled through love. She had to make decisions on whether she would pursue one or both of the men looking for her attention, Pierre and Will. Pierre was so charming and extremely rich, and Will was so lovable. Pierre was the man her family approved of, and Will was strictly forbidden as a guide on their tour and not rich.

There was mystery and a few tense moments to add to the enjoyment. Overall I loved the story and the characters. Let me say, Hugh was always good for a laugh. Some of the scenery descriptions felt a little long at times, but overall I really enjoyed this read. I look forward to reading book 3 when it comes out in October!

Book Review: Masquerade by Janette Rallison

Title: Masquerade
Author: Janette Rallison
Publisher: self
Release Date: November 2012
Pages: eBook only
Series: none
5 STARS: I LOVED IT!!!

When Clarissa takes a much needed job under slightly false pretenses, she doesn’t think it will be such a big deal. She may have told her movie-star boss that she was married, but that shouldn’t matter. After all, she doesn’t want anything to do with men for a long, long time.

It’s hard for a woman to keep up the masquerade when her boss is as handsome as Slade Jacobson and the job takes her to Hawaii with him. In between handling his whirlwind four-year-old daughter and dealing with a whole cast of Hollywood personalities, Clarissa has to keep a tight hold on her heart.

My Thoughts:
I loved this book! Clarissa was a single mom with a critical and disinterested ex-husband. She needed a job and found an old friend of her ex’s at a temp agency. He thought she was still married and sent her over to Slade the movie star’s house for a nanny interview. The guy told her Slade preferred the nanny to be married so she wouldn’t be another girl trying to get his attention instead of nannying his daughter. Slade thinking Clarissa was married was not the most promising start to a romance, but it got interesting. Then there was Landon, Slade’s movie star friend she met in Hawaii, who either didn’t believe she was married or didn’t care.

Told from both Clarissa and Slade’s POV made it even more fun and frustrating. The poor guy thought she was married for crying out loud. I enjoyed the parts with Clarissa and her daughter and Slade and his daughter, very sweet. Slade’s daughter was a handful making for some pretty funny/embarrassing scenes. Like I’ve said before, Janette Rallison writes the most cringe worthy and hilarious embarrassing moments.

Masquerade was a light-hearted, entertaining, clean adult romance. I recommend it to any romance lover.
